What’s not to love about spring? It’s the start of the warmer weather, sunshine, & flower festivals. For many Australians, it’s the perfect time to travel & tick off their bucket list of places they’ve been planning to visit since winter. On the other hand, we often associate spring with decluttering or cleaning. Regardless of the season, spring cleaning has become a universal expression & practice that symbolises renewal, transformation, growth & a new beginning.
The science behind spring cleaning
If you’re curious behind the science about why spring has become synonymous with cleaning, here’s an interesting explanation:
Our brains release more melatonin – a hormone that causes sleepiness, triggered by fewer hours of daylight during winter. That’s why we feel sluggish & don’t have much energy to deep clean during colder months. But as soon as the season changes & the days start to become longer, melatonin production lessens & we start feeling more energised by more sunlight.
In addition, dust is highly visible once the bright sunlight enters your window! Kidding aside, spring is truly an ideal time for homeowners to deep clean & get any outstanding repairs done ready for the summer.

Here are our top 3 tips to organise & rejuvenate your home this spring:
√ Check for repairs you’ve been ignoring for months
In a lot of cases, we discover damage or disrepair around our homes while spring cleaning. We tend to go around the house room by room, cleaning every nook & cranny, taking notice of any issues. One item that can be easily overlooked are flyscreens. These are very important during summer especially, & should be checked annually to make sure there are no rip, tears or frame problems. EHi offers flyscreen repairs if the mesh is damaged, or the frames are already dented or bent. You can also have the colour of your screen frames changed if you feel like adding a different tone in your home.
√ Dust off dirt
Dust is an enemy that inevitably returns! You will often find dust & dirt on your indoor & outdoor blinds, plantation shutters, security screen doors & windows. Here are a few tips on how to properly clean & maintain them:
- How to clean blinds & plantation shutters
- Use a feather duster or vacuum with the brush attachment to gently clean the dirt found in between the slats of the plantation shutter & blinds, including vertical, venetian & honeycomb types of window blind.
- For wet cleaning, use a clean cloth & soak it in a bowl mixed with white vinegar & warm water. Squeeze the cloth to remove excess water & run it along the slats from top to bottom.
- For fabric blinds such as roller & panel glide blinds, use a vacuum to remove dust & unwanted dirt such as pet hair. Use a damp cloth with soap to remove stains.
