FAQ
Stainless steel mesh is made using thin wires of stainless steel woven together to form a mesh pattern. It is a durable material used in various applications such as flyscreens, screen doors, fences, cages & more.
EHi offers various types of screen mesh for flyscreens & screen doors, each with different properties:
- Stainless steel mesh
- Aluminium mesh
- Fibreglass mesh
- Pet mesh
- Luxury screens
- Amplimesh® Supascreen (marine grade stainless steel security mesh)
- Amplimesh® Intrudaguard (marine grade aluminium)
Stainless steel mesh provides strong protection from insects without blocking the view or airflow. It is hard-wearing, durable, & corrosion-resistant.
There are many factors to consider when choosing the right type of mesh for your fly screen or screen doors.
- Price – Will the type of mesh for your fly screen or screen door fit your budget?
- Material type – Do you prefer aluminium, stainless steel or fibreglass?
- Purpose or safety concerns – Are insects common in your area? Is your location prone to bushfires or cyclones or salt spray? Do you have pets at home that can damage the mesh?
- Aesthetic – Do you prefer a swinging screen door, sliding screen door or retractable screen door?
- Ventilation – Screens can also affect the ventilation rate in varying degrees.
When it comes to durability, stainless steel is the strongest, but can also be the heaviest when it comes to meshes. Aluminium mesh is lighter & more corrosion-resistant, Fibreglass is very lightweight & cost-effective, but not suitable for bushfire-prone areas. Pet mesh is strong & flexible, but again like fibreglass & also Luxury mesh, not suitable for fire areas.

Steel mesh is used in high-temperature conditions. Both our stainless steel & aluminium meshes are suitable for bushfire-prone areas, but only stainless steel can be used for homes with a very high bushfire rating to comply with Australian Standards 3959-2018.
Use a mild detergent with warm water & a sponge or soft-bristled brush to scrub the dirt & dust off the screen. Scrub gently then rinse the screen with clear water & allow it to air dry.
